question about linux games with 32-bit binary only
Lib-Inst Sep 14, 2023
I am looking to buy a game and it mentions that 'This game comes with a 32-bit binary only". Can anyone tell me what that means? Does that mean that I cant play it on linux mint DE 64 bit or something?

Most Linux systems have all the libraries for 32 bit binaries as well as those for 64 bit games, either installed by default (I am fairly sure that is the case for Mint) or you can install it from the main repositories. But it could not be installed on some distros, so the developer makes a point of listing it just to be sure, as it is a requirement.

Great, thanks for the answer.

Things like the Steam client is still 32bit so if you can run that, your system can probably run the game.

Quoting: GuestIf my laptop is 64-bit, I can't play the 32-bit game?

If your laptop is x86_64 architecture, you certainly can run 32 bit games. It would be your Linux distribution that provides the means (kernel with execution support for 32 bit binaries, and compatible 32 bit libraries for running software)

$ uname -m
x86_64
