Citizen Con - CIG mentionned native linux support
Bragga Oct 26, 2023
At the Citizen Con, CIG mentionned Native Linux Support through Vulkan API for Star Citizen & Squadron 42.

They also use an AMD based technology for the ray tracing which will be usable buy the GPU or the CPU if the GPU isn't powerfull enough.

Where abouts? Your link doesn't go to any Linux mention.

Found it, 2:08:35

They don't actually mention it though, it's just listed on the slide as a potential thing.

The always mention it as something that could be done after Vulkan comes in, but they never commit. However, they have talked about how they want to do cloud testing by spinning up lots of actual rendering clients and they do want a Linux build for that. Of course, most of the stuff in the game is also part of the server code and already runs on Linux.

But whatever they do, when Vulkan comes in it'll be a big help because DXVK is struggling with the game now. Not sure why it hits so hard, but it's a lot worse than 10-15% loss of frames.
