Adult games. Do you play them?

I don't but my alter ego James Cole has been known to. He also does other such lewd things as order Starbucks. In truth one thing I can say for many in the visual novel genre, lewd or not, is that they tend to have a higher percentage of their games have native Linux versions as well as use FOSS engines like Ren'Py. They are also more frequently available on DRM free options such as Itch.io and GOG compared to other genres. Also that Steam privacy thing seems to work. Still would recommend using a secondary Steam account just in case.

That reminded me of the ASCII meme on Steam about playing porn games on your main account. Something that I do and don't hide. 👀

Localized visual novels tend to be:
1) Funded on Kickstarter (famously, the Muv-Luv localization collected over a million dollars), and so often includes stretch goals like Linux and macOS. Visual novels are rarely so complicated that a company can say "We never predicted how difficult supporting Linux and macOS would be after all so we can't do it!"
2) Re-engineered by the company on another engine that works better on non Japanese computers anyway, and Ren'Py is often the choice of engine to use for that, so they get Linux for free
3) Banned on Steam, so they need to seek out alternative stores
4) Shunned and pirated by players in very high numbers thus DRM has never been an effective deterrent, so why bother? Over 10 years ago, almost every VN localization company abandoned DRM. Shiravune thinks they can get away with DRM because Japanese customers are used to it, but it remains to be seen what level of success they achieve.

It all coalesces into a great situation for us Linux players who buy visual novels. Please buy the visual novel if you can. They're doing everything right, in my opinion.

Well, aside from paying their translators well and taking their time to produce a great translation. I think JAST is the one exception on that front.

Quoting: eldakingBut while I am not opposed to games where the sex is the main point, most of those seem to be really bad? I tried a few of the games in this article: https://www.pcgamer.com/best-sex-games/ They were... alright? I should probably try a few more and see if anything clicks.
That is my experience as well, many seem to be really bad games, and also really bad porn, the worst of both worlds.

I did enjoy Hunie Pop (match-3) and Highway Blossoms (kinetic story), but both could easily stand on their own without any adult content. As far as I remember it is actually optional in both.

Then there's games like Neptunia series, some with more fan service than others. Although I am not sure I would qualify them as adult games specifically.

So when it comes to adult content, I feel that video games are just not the best media for it.

Quoting: Linux_RocksI recently finished Trap Shrine as well, and started the second game Trap Legend. 🔥
The latest game, Trap Yuri Garden just dropped. It looks pretty good. I like my traps extra trappy.

QuoteTraps in motion at long last! Trap series creators Aogiri Penta and Nishida Hajime bring us another exciting title, a cross-dressing yuri love story that will shatter its readers sense of values into a thousand pieces!
What a summary for the game on Steam. Steamy. lol
Yes, I play adult games. I've played Half-Life, that was kind of violent but pixel-ey, and recently I've been playing Fallout New Vegas, which is very adult.

That's pretty much my hard limit. I don't see why you would want to go more adult than an ESRB M, and I never will.

I played Doom at 8 years old and owned my own copy of it at 9. Then I played Half-Life for the first time in the 6th grade at a friend's house. lol

Come to think of it, I think Do You Like Horny Bunnies? was my first exposure to adult visual novels back in high school. Thanks Adam Sessler and Extended Play/TechTV. I obtained a copy after that episode. XD

(For anyone wondering: No, Do You Like Horny Bunnies? isn't a furry game. 👀)

I can't be the only person here with parents that gave fuck all about game ratings when they were a kid.
