I feel like it desperately needs more RAM/VRAM, 16GB is a bit on the small side. I feel like 24GB would be ideal. The Steam Deck can crash when RAM is fully saturated by games, which is obviously a bad thing. Also the performance would improve because it would need to rely less on virtual memory.
A second USB-C port would be nice, both for durability and for the ability to connect things while it's charging without having to use a dock.

Last year I bought a Miyoo Mini Plus, just an impulse buy because it was on sale dirt cheap. Ended up liking it so much I wish I'd bought a more expensive model with analog sticks. Meanwhile my Deck still gathers dust.
The main thing I want to see is an upgraded APU and a bump to 24GB RAM. I don't even think the screen needs a resolution update, as that's kinda fine really. The APU and RAM are the main things though, too many newer games coming out that even on the absolute minimum can't hold anywhere close to 30FPS at 800p.
More I/O (at least a second USB-C) would be great. And a Deckmate-Connector on the backplate. Other than that, the OLED Deck is pretty much perfect in my book.
I do hope they stick with 800p, unless the hardware makes a REALLY huge jump forwards. 800p is perfect for the screen size and saves so much rendering power. But if the hardware is strong enough to run 1080p without major downsides, it would of course be nice to have that little uptick in visual quality with the added comfort of having all my games configured to one resolution I can run and enjoy mobile AND docked. I also notice some wonkyness in shader-effects in some of the more modern games from time to time that MIGHT have something to do with the low resolution. Not sure about it, but maybe 1080p would fix that.
Edit: Better replaceablity! The Steam Deck already does a lot of things right in this regard, but an ability to replace the SSD without opening the shell (like in Laptops or GPD Win Handhelds) should be a main focus in the design of a Deck 2. And if they really HAVE to glue the battery, why not glue it on a plate, wich then gets fixed with screws and sell replacement batteries pre-glued on such plates?

Am I right in assuming you are using the original LCD Deck? I have them both and gotta say the OLED is in a completely different league with the thermals and fan noise. The shell never gets hot and with demanding games the fans can ramp up from "almost silent" to "slightly noticeable". Its one of the things I really hope they can keep up with a Deck 2.
Hard to tell, but I wouldn´t be too surprised if they´d release a Steam Deck Mini or something alongside the Deck 2, sporting the same specs as the current Steam Deck. Those have become widely accepted as the performance target for portable PC gaming, so it would make a lot of sense to keep them relevant a few years longer.

yes that's correct! Wow I did NOT know this. I guess I'm mistaken in thinking that the oled just has a new screen and that's it. They must've done a lot more! Hmmmmmmmmmmmm .... Thank you for letting me know.
