User to user DMs have been disabled
Liam Dawe 7 hours ago
Due to the incoming UK Online Safety Act, it's a bit of a mess for anything resembling a forum on content moderation and anything relating to user generated content.

With that in mind: DMs between individual users have been completely disabled to reduce any problems there. However, moderators / editors will still be able to DM you for moderation purposes.

Need to get in touch directly? You should email us anyway.

The more I thought on it, the less sense "private" messages made here. It was rarely used by users and there just doesn't seem to be many genuine use-cases for it here. For people who want to connect outside GOL, that's what your profile is for to list where people can find you (and if you need some additional profile options to help, let me know).

I can think of a single use case for DMs, when people give away game keys those shouldn't be posted in public. It can probably done through Steam though, and certainly not a compelling reason for having a whole DM system.

That is something that could have been legit, but it's also not something we generally want here anyway, as it can cause moderation headaches too. There's a couple of times the feature would have uses, but like also 100% of the time people can speak outside GOL for personal stuff.

Yeah as a brit, I plan to slowly pull myself off the public internet entirely and just use it as a tool to get updates and things. The way government regulations are going, it's just not worth giving up so much just to be online with normal people anymore.

Note: I'm an anarchist, it means I support the concept of removing governments entirely in the name of ensuring peace (no wars) and freedom. That makes me an extremist/terrorist in their eyes.
